The item is new and in unused condition. The manufacturer says the stand is best used with plates between 8 1/4" and 11". Photos showing a 10 1/2" dinner plate and a 8" salad plate have been provided. The stand holds three plates and is made of square metal wire. The manufacturer describes the stand as being a painted mahogany finish, but it is very dark and is close to black with gold accents.The three plate holders swivel, so the width and depth of the stand is adjustable to fit most serving spaces. The three legs with the "round swirl" shape have a small black pad on the bottom of the leg to help protect the surface of the table. The stand folds together so the three plate rings are stacked on each other. This configuration works for storage only. It cannot be used with the rings stacked on each other, because the stand would not stand up without having four legs in different positions. Look at the photos for details.
